Getting it to you
Getting the wood to you
We send parcels and pallets from Finland to the EU, the UK, North America, Japan and Australia. Timber crossing borders has paperwork; here is exactly which paperwork and who does it.
Packing
Slabs and boards travel on a pallet, ends sealed, edges protected with board, strapped and film-wrapped, once the moisture is stable. Logs go on a pallet or loose on a groupage trailer depending on length and how many there are, bark protected where the transit is long.
The point of the packing is moisture, not impact. A wrap that lets a board gain three points of moisture crossing an ocean has failed even if nothing is broken.

- Moisture on despatch
- 13–15%, or green/air-dried for logs by agreement
- Destinations
- Worldwide, including US, UK, Japan, Australia
- EU shipments
- No export documents needed
- Non-EU shipments
- Invoice, packing list, origin, phyto where required
Inside the EU
Straightforward. A commercial invoice and a packing list, no customs declaration, no phytosanitary certificate, no duty. Nordic and Baltic destinations are usually a few days; southern Europe rather longer on a pallet.
Outside the EU
Every non-EU shipment leaves with a commercial invoice, a packing list, the correct commodity code and a statement of origin. We file the export declaration in Finland. What differs by country is the plant health side.
Many destinations require a phytosanitary certificate for birch timber, issued by the Finnish Food Authority after inspection. We arrange it. Sawn material is debarked and kiln-dried, which is what most requirements are actually asking about. Logs with bark are restricted into several markets, so ask early about logs to a non-EU destination — the answer is sometimes no.
Wooden pallets and crates leaving the EU are heat-treated and ISPM 15 stamped. That rule covers the packaging, not the goods inside it, and both are handled here.
Customs duty and import VAT are the buyer's responsibility. We ship DAP unless we have agreed something else in writing: our price and freight get the goods to your address, and the duty, import VAT and any customs broker's fee at your end are yours. This is not us pushing work onto you. A Finnish exporter cannot pay US duty or Japanese consumption tax on your behalf without becoming the importer of record, and you do not want that.
If your country needs anything unusual — an import permit, a fumigation declaration, a specific certificate wording — tell us before we cut. It is easily done in advance and painful afterwards.
Lead times
In stock
Two to five working days to despatch. Most standard boards are on the shelf; logs are matched to the current felling batch.
Cut to order from dried stock
One to three weeks, depending on the queue and how much sorting the order needs. This covers most matched runs.
From green or standing timber
Eight to twelve months. Most felling happens November to March, then six months minimum air drying and a gentle kiln cycle. A bespoke slab or a large matched run from one log may still have to wait for the next winter batch.
Transit on top of that: a few days inside the EU, roughly one to two weeks by air outside it, six weeks or more by sea for pallets. Sea freight for a small parcel makes no sense, and we will tell you so rather than quote it.
Damage and shortfalls
Photograph the parcel before you open it if it arrives damaged, and send us the photographs the same week. Claims are simple when there is evidence and impossible when there is not.
Sizes and forms are on the products page, and the grade you order against is described on the grades page.
Tell us where it is going
Country, quantity and rough dimensions are enough for us to price the freight and tell you what paperwork your order will need.
