Nordic Masur was founded on a simple conviction: the world’s finest craftsmen deserve direct access to the world’s finest Masur Birch.
Karelian Masur Birch — known internationally as Curly Birch or Flame Birch — is one of nature’s rarest and most visually striking hardwoods. Its distinctive wavy, figured grain has made it prized by knife makers, luthiers, furniture artisans, and woodturners for centuries. But sourcing high-quality Masur Birch has always been difficult: supply is limited, grading is inconsistent, and the chain from forest to workshop is often opaque.
We set out to change that.
From Forest to Workshop
Based in Finland — the heartland of Masur Birch — we grow wood by ourselves and work directly with forest owners and harvesters across the Finnish and Karelian birch belt. We personally inspect and select every tree, evaluating the wood for figure density, grain character, and structural soundness before it enters our supply chain.
This hands-on approach means two things for our customers: consistently exceptional quality, and complete traceability. When you buy from Nordic Masur, you know exactly where your wood comes from and who selected it.
